Fatherhood is humbling: By Arinzechukwu Patrick

Extracted from “Relapse” now showing on NOWNESS

Fatherhood is humbling

It’s like starting your life all over again. Truly

When you arrive at a certain age

It starts to feel like a blunt

You’ve taken too many drags out of

Hours into it, but the real high came seconds into the exercise, the rest only as a result of prolonged habit.

But fatherhood is humbling because

It means you’re starting to walk again

Learning to talk

Bending to clean

Going to school

Form words and then ideas

Hustling for the bread daily

Fatherhood is humbling,

If you’re at the end of your life and suddenly there’s a new start growing in your lover’s stomach then it means that you’re successful

You can win bread

You can care for a family

You’re responsible

You can be called a man

And that is very humbling…
